WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (November 29, 2005) --
Daniel Herrington, fresh off his ST class victory at VIR last month, took another step forward in his career development with a successful one day DP test with ADi in Danville Va. last week.
Despite being limited to only 20 laps in extremely cold weather producing tires well below optimal operating temperature, Herrington was able to pilot the ADi Motorsports BMW powered Picchio chassis around the 2.7 mile VIR full course in the high 1:49's - quicker than any of the other drivers participating in the two days of testing before Thanksgiving.
"Daniel did a remarkable job of becoming familiar with our Daytona Prototype as well posting the fastest time of the day," says ADi driver and technical director Shawn Bayliff. "He has definitely shown us his natural ability- harnessing that natural ability with testing, coaching and the right financial breaks Daniel could go all the way to the top. I look forward to helping him in anyway that I can."
Herrington, an engineering freshman at NC State, started his racing career just two years ago with rookie season championships in the NASA and Skip Barber racing series. This summer he competed in the Formula BMW USA series before taking the Compass 360 BMW Z3 to the top podium spot in the Grand Am Cup season finale.
"It was a tremendous experience to get behind the wheel of the Team ADi Daytona Prototype," says Daniel. "Shawn Bayliff and the whole ADi team have done a great job with the car and I am confident it will be running up at the front at the 24 Hours of Daytona. I just want to thank Hassel Moran and Shawn Bayliff for giving me this opportunity and hopefully it is just the beginning of my involvement in Grand Am Rolex racing."
Herrington is currently hoping to compete in a combination of Formula Mazda and Grand Am Cup races for the 2006 season; although based on his performance last week in Danville, he will be anxious to build DP racing into his future as well.
