Hassel Moran took some time to answer a few questions about the return of the Picchio Dp to the series.
DM: How did this team come together and how did you get linked up with Picchio and Shawn Bayliff?
HM:Shawn and I have been working on putting a Grand Am team together since he came to work with me in January from Synergy. My company does paint and body work, makes carbon fiber and fiberglass components and repairs, and designs, manufactures, and installs graphics for many race teams. Seven of the GT Porsches are now running front and rear bumpers made by us as well as other components. Shawn and I met when he came to work for Synergy four years ago. Yes this is the same Picchio that was owned by Synergy, but we have made significant improvements to the car with mods and better component changes. This is not the same old Picchio. We feel very committed to get the car out front, and hopefully stay there.
DM: What made you decide on the Dinan BMW engine package?
HM: The Dinan power has been improved tremendously recently, and we feel it has a much wider power curve than before.
DM: What are your plans for 2006?
HM: We also have a new Picchio chassis that has never been built and our plans are to start the 2006 season with both cars. We are debuting the car at VIR because we are located here at the track.
DM: Any other comments for the fans of the Picchio DP?
HM: As far as the Picchio fans, we surely hope that they will continue to support the car and the team in its efforts to bring the Picchio to a well respected adversary position in the Daytona Prototypes.
